Cheltenham Appoint North As First Team Coach

Cheltenham Appoint North As First Team Coach

Chairman Paul Baker has confirmed that Shaun North will begin his role as First Team Coach at Cheltenham Town on July 1st.

Following the departure of assistant boss Neil Howarth, it's expected that North will fulfil that role, and he's reported signed a one year deal that will begin officially next month.

North was appointed as AFC Wimbledon's U21 development coach last summer, having previously served as assistant first team manager at Bristol Rovers, serving under Paul Buckle, Mark McGhee and John Ward, also having spent time working with Buckle at Torquay United.

With Steve Elliott's appointment as player/coach, and as he learns the ropes taking his first steps into management, North will no doubt be the senior here taking the No 2 role.

In quotes carried by the Western Daily Press our chairman explained.

'We have some good news because our preferred candidate has accepted the job. The coach concerned has sorted our his accommodation in Cheltenham and we have agreed a one year contract.'

Baker goes on to say that Cheltenham had approached his current employers, and with reluctance they gave us permission to open talks with him, and now we are just waiting on club secretary Paul Godfrey to return from the World Cup in Brazil so we can make everything formal and official, but it's expected that will be sorted out by July 1st.

Expect an official confirmation from the club shortly, along with details.
