Yates Bemused By Chesterfield Hammering

Manager Mark Yates has been left bemused by our first half defending in the game last night against Chesterfield.

A heavy four one defeat on home soil did leave our gaffer somewhat perplexed as he admitted when speaking to the Official Site that he actually felt it was a much better performance from us.

'Believe it or not I probably think it was one of our better performances particularly at home. We've had 17 chances and efforts on goal but we've had a crazy seven minutes where defending was shocking at best and you cannot legislate for that.'

Yates says he always felt Chesterfield would have slightly more possession than us because of how they play but we were doing well for 20 minutes and had chances ourselves, and then chesterfield just opened us up time and time again.

'Chesterfield will say they scored good goals and they were good finishes, but they should never have happened. They were all stoppable but all of a sudden you are out of the game.'

Yates goes on to say that going in at half time the team wanted to come out and win the second half battle and win the game itself, but with defending like that you are never going to manage it because it's way too much of an uphill struggle.

For Yates now it's about getting back on track as we have another tough game this weekend, but it's pretty much a good story of our season so far for him because he knows we could and should have been ahead before they scored, but that's an old story this campaign.
