An Ugly Win for Yates

Manager Mark Yates has said he was delighted with our 'ugly win' over Exeter City on Boxing Day.

Speaking to the Official Site following the one nil win thanks to a goal from Jamie Cureton inside the first 15 minutes, Yates admitted that it truly was a game of two halves.

'We had a brilliant first half and we should have been out of sight, but they were much better than us in the second half. We probably needed an ugly 1-0 win and we certainly got that with the second half performance.'

Yates isn't 100% sure what changed, or what the reason was for why we stepped back in the second half, but he knows Exeter certainly gained the impetuous following the half time break and they got the momentum right behind them and we struggled.

Yates goes on to say that he's always maintained Scott Brown is the best goalkeeper in the division and he more than feels he proved that on Boxing Day with his performance and the saves that he was pulling out - even though mostly from long distance - but Yates still wasn't too happy that we gave them though chances as we made things harder for ourselves.

It's all about the positives for now though, and he was delighted to see the team dig in and buckle down and put their bodies on the line when it was needed because it really shows the spirit within the camp now and to be unbeaten in 11 matches is a good achievement and he wants us to continue building on it and maintain that run for as long as we can.

Moving forward, whilst he's not angry with the players for the second half, he doesn't want to see a game that different again between the two halves, because on another day he wouldn't have the relief of sitting there talking about three points.
