First team coach Dave Kevan has said he believes that the Cheltenham players controlled the game against Morecambe very well, even if they did give us an early fright.
Speaking to the Official Site following the three nil victory courtesy of goals from Matty Richards, Terry Gornell and Byron Harrison, he said that we almost rode our luck early on as the keeper had to pull off a good save five minutes in, but after that moment it seemed to focus us, and he believes we then controlled the match well, and put in a perfect shift following the disappointment of the Rochdale game.
'Whether Morecambe had 10 or 11 on the pitch, we generally felt comfortable throughout. The goals have come at good times and thankfully we haven't conceded at poor times. That has been the story certainly in the spell that I've been at the club because over the last six weeks we have just conceded poor goals and we were scratching our heads at times at how to eliminate those mistakes.'
Kevan admits that he feels manager Mark Yates deserves a lot of credit as he feels a lot of manager's would've been stubborn with the problems we've had and just believed it would even itself out, but he's been actively looking for ways to shore us up, train us into some form and keep the spirit high within the camp - whilst also being determined to maintain the standards he expects from the players.
In the game against Morecambe Kevan feels that work came off as he says we had that extra pass, we retained the ball far better and played with a lot more freedom than we probably have all season so far.
He added specific praise for certain players because of their individual performances and what they brought to the game, but overall it was a solid team performance and it's the team that now needs to carry that forward into this weekend and get another positive result on our tally.
If we can, and we can maintain that consistency, there's certainly no reason why we can't turn our season around in the next few matches...but we've been here with wins before and not done that, so nobody should be getting carried away despite the positives.
