Mark Yates has said that he felt the players didn't get what they deserved from today's game to Scunthorpe, especially as we went down two nil in the match.
An opening goal after only six minutes certainly had our backs to the wall following our recent form and performance levels, and then an injury time second for Scunny sealed the game and the points from them and consigned us to the fact we simply couldn't build on the Wimbledon victory and be unbeaten in two.
Speaking to the Official Site Yates admitted that he and the players were disappointed and frustrated following the game and even though it's clear we need to work even harder to change our fortunes and our luck around, he certainly feels we should've come out of the game with something as he points to a few penalty shouts we had that simply didn't go for us.
'We should have had at least a couple of penalties, but that's where we are at the moment and we've got to work even harder to turn our luck around. The effort was there in the second half and we had numerous chances, but we've committed the cardinal sin of conceding in the first five minutes again. It was sloppy on our part.'
Yates said the only way we will turn this around is by hard work and continuing to believe in ourselves because he's knows the players at the club are certainly better than what our current results and league placing suggest, and they need to believe that and start performing to the levels he and they know they are capable of performing to.
With all the talk of the potential penalty decisions for handball and a foul on Jamie Cureton though, Yates is quick to point out that they weren't the reason we lost the game, we lost the game because we were sloppy in defence again and simply not clinical enough in attack.
Despite the loss, the gaffer points to the desire of the players to get back into it though, especially in the second half, so again there are positives for him to take and he feels the players are game by game raising their levels, it's just not enough at the moment so more is needed.
